The Southern Suburbs have Cape Town’s oldest established pools, and they come with a very specific set of problems. Kwik Pools works the whole belt, from Pinelands and Rondebosch through Claremont, Newlands and Bishopscourt down to Constantia, Tokai, Bergvliet and out to Muizenberg.
If you live under the oaks in Newlands, Bishopscourt or Upper Constantia you already know the autumn routine. Leaf load here is the worst in the city, and it is not just a cleaning nuisance. Decomposing leaves feed phosphates into the water, drive up chlorine demand and stain marbelite if they are left to sit on the floor. Weirs and pump baskets need checking far more often than the standard advice suggests, and a decent net or cover through April and May saves hours.
The second issue is shade and damp. A pool that only gets four hours of direct sun and sits under trees in a wet Southern Suburbs winter is an algae farm waiting to happen, and it needs a different filtration and dosing approach to a pool baking in the open in Brackenfell.
Third, and most expensive: age. There are a huge number of pools here built in the sixties and seventies. The construction is usually excellent, but the marbelite is on its second or third life, the plumbing is old, and ground movement between a soaking winter and a dry summer has opened cracks in shells that were never going to leak. A big share of our leak detection and resurfacing work is in this belt.

Winter rain dilutes stabiliser and calcium, so the chlorine you add stops holding. It is the classic Southern Suburbs pattern and it is preventable with a proper post winter rebuild.
