Salt air and wind off False Bay do the same work here as on the West Coast: corrosion on pump housings, fixings, light fittings and DB box internals, plus heat stripped off an uncovered surface. Equipment here needs specifying with that in mind rather than as though the pool were inland.
Then you get the winter, which on this side is wet and long. Rain dilutes stabiliser and calcium, damp keeps everything cool and slow, and pools that were fine in March turn in September.
The other Muizenberg factor is the water table. Lakeside and the Marina da Gama side sit low, and after a wet winter the ground can be saturated enough that draining a pool becomes genuinely risky, because an empty shell will float. We check ground conditions before any job that involves emptying the pool, and we would rather move a resurfacing job to summer than take that chance.
