The Northern Suburbs are home turf. Kwik Pools is based in the Plattekloof area and most of our weekly route runs between Panorama, Bellville, Durbanville and Brackenfell, which means when something goes wrong out here we are usually the same day or the next.
Two things define pools on this side of the mountain. The first is heat. Inland from the sea breeze, Durbanville, Brackenfell and Kraaifontein routinely run several degrees hotter than the Atlantic side through January and February. That burns chlorine off fast, drives evaporation hard and gives algae a head start every single week.
The second is the water. Municipal supply through much of the Northern Suburbs runs harder than the Cape average, and it shows. Scale on the waterline, calcium build up inside salt chlorinator cells, and filter sand slowly cementing into a solid block are all far more common here than they are in the Southern Suburbs. A lot of the sand changes and cell cleans we do are on this route, and most of them are because nobody was watching the calcium number.
The upside is that pools out here get used. Bigger properties, bigger gardens and a proper summer mean a pool in Welgemoed or Sonstraal Heights earns its keep in a way one in a shaded City Bowl courtyard never will.
A pool problem is a time problem. Water goes from clear to green in about forty eight hours in a Northern Suburbs February, so a contractor who can only get to you next Thursday is not much use. Being based here is the whole point.
