Sonstraal Heights is newer development, which means newer pools, tidier plant rooms and a different set of problems to the older Northern Suburbs. Kwik Pools services the area alongside the rest of the Durbanville route.
Pools here are generally younger and smaller than the older Durbanville stock, often modern rectangles or compact family pools rather than the big freeform shapes of the eighties. That is good news: less water to heat, less to clean and cheaper to run. It also means a cover and a correctly set timer make a bigger proportional difference than they would on a large pool.
What we do see on newer builds is equipment specified to a budget rather than to the pool. An undersized pump or a chlinator cell chosen for price will struggle through a Durbanville February, and it usually shows up in the second or third summer rather than the first.
On a newer pool the smartest money is usually spent on control rather than chemicals. A timer that keeps its schedule through load shedding, run times that change with the season, and a cell sized properly for the pool will do more for the water than anything you pour in.
