Edgemead is a settled, leafy suburb sitting back from the coast, and its pools have an easier life than the ones on the beachfront. Kwik Pools services Edgemead and Bothasig from the Plattekloof base.

What Edgemead pools deal with

Being set back from the water makes a real difference here. Less salt in the air, noticeably less wind than Table View, and equipment that lasts closer to its design life. What Edgemead has instead is mature trees, and that means leaves in the weir and organics in the water through autumn.

The pool stock is mostly from the seventies and eighties, so we see a lot of tired marbelite, original plumbing and pumps that were replaced once with whatever was cheapest at the time. Those pools usually have plenty of life left, they just need the plant brought up to date.

Because Edgemead pools are sheltered, they hold heat far better than anything on the coast, which makes heating genuinely worthwhile here. A correctly sized heat pump and a cover on a sheltered Edgemead pool will give you swimming from September through to May, which is not a realistic promise five kilometres west of here.

Jobs we do most often in Edgemead

  • Autumn leaf load management and weekly cleaning
  • Marbelite resurfacing on older shells
  • Pump and filter replacement on tired plant
  • Heating and covers on sheltered pools
  • Leak detection on original plumbing

Questions from Edgemead pool owners

Is heating worth it in Edgemead?

More than most areas nearby, because you are sheltered from the wind that steals the heat on the coast.

How old is too old for a pool?

Age is rarely the problem. Tired surfaces and old plant are, and both are fixable.

How we work in Edgemead

Edgemead is about ten minutes from our Plattekloof base and sits on our local route. Weekly, fortnightly and one off visits are all available, and you get a note after each visit with what was done and where the water sat.

Pool tips for Edgemead homes

Edgemead is mostly family homes on medium plots, and a lot of the pools were built when the suburb was developed. That means many are now at the age where the surface, the skimmer box or the original plumbing starts to give trouble. If your water level drops more than a few centimetres a week, it is worth booking a leak check before summer.

Afternoon wind in summer brings in leaves and fine sand, which loads the filter quickly. A good leaf net, a cover or slightly longer pump hours in the windy months make a big difference to water clarity.

We can look at the whole pool in one visit and give you a written list of what needs attention now and what can wait, so you can budget properly.

Is it normal for my pool to lose water in summer?

Some evaporation is normal on hot windy days. If it drops faster than a bucket of water next to it, there may be a leak.

Do you do once off cleans in Edgemead?

Yes, once off cleans and green pool recoveries are available as well as weekly service.
