Edgemead is a settled, leafy suburb sitting back from the coast, and its pools have an easier life than the ones on the beachfront. Kwik Pools services Edgemead and Bothasig from the Plattekloof base.
Being set back from the water makes a real difference here. Less salt in the air, noticeably less wind than Table View, and equipment that lasts closer to its design life. What Edgemead has instead is mature trees, and that means leaves in the weir and organics in the water through autumn.
The pool stock is mostly from the seventies and eighties, so we see a lot of tired marbelite, original plumbing and pumps that were replaced once with whatever was cheapest at the time. Those pools usually have plenty of life left, they just need the plant brought up to date.
Because Edgemead pools are sheltered, they hold heat far better than anything on the coast, which makes heating genuinely worthwhile here. A correctly sized heat pump and a cover on a sheltered Edgemead pool will give you swimming from September through to May, which is not a realistic promise five kilometres west of here.
