Welgemoed sits on the slopes with big stands, mature trees and pools that are usually a feature of the garden rather than an afterthought. Kwik Pools looks after a number of them on a weekly route out of Plattekloof.

The mature tree cover through Welgemoed is lovely and it is hard work for a pool. Leaves in the weir every day through autumn, organics feeding the water, and shade that keeps sections of the pool cool and slow to recover after a green patch. Pools here need more brushing and closer attention to the phosphate and chlorine balance than an open pool in Brackenfell would.
Being on a slope also matters. A fair number of Welgemoed pools sit on raised or terraced ground, and when a leak develops the water has somewhere to go, which means damage shows up in the garden or the retaining structure before anyone thinks to check the pool level.
Shaded pools need a different rhythm. We tend to run slightly longer filtration through summer here, watch the phosphate load that comes off decomposing leaves, and brush more thoroughly than we would on an open pool. Get those three right and a tree covered Welgemoed pool stays as clear as one sitting in full sun.
