Most pool problems are water problems wearing a costume. Cloudy water, algae that keeps coming back, itchy eyes, scale on the tiles and equipment that dies early all trace back to chemistry that has drifted. Kwik Pools does proper pool water testing and balancing in Cape Town, on site, with a full report you can actually read. Call or WhatsApp 084 483 1774.

What we test in your pool water

  • Free and total chlorine, so we can see whether you have combined chlorine burning your eyes
  • pH and total alkalinity, the two that control everything else
  • Cyanuric acid, the stabiliser that Cape Town sun makes essential and that too many pools are drowning in
  • Calcium hardness, which decides whether your water eats plaster or coats it in scale
  • Salt level and cell output on salt pools
  • Phosphates and total dissolved solids when algae keeps returning for no obvious reason

Why pool water testing matters more in Cape Town

Cape Town gives a pool a hard time. Summer UV strips unstabilised chlorine in hours, the southeaster drops dust and organics in daily, and municipal water hardness varies a lot depending which side of the mountain you are on. A pool in Durbanville and a pool in Muizenberg with identical dosing will end up in very different places by March.

The two failures we see most often are stabiliser lock, where cyanuric acid has climbed so high that chlorine stops working even though the test says there is plenty of it, and low pH sitting for months quietly etching marbelite into sandpaper. Both are invisible until they are expensive.

What you get from a visit

We test on site, explain what each number is doing to your pool in plain language, and dose it properly rather than tipping in a bucket and hoping. Where the fix is partial drain and refill, we say so instead of selling you chemicals that cannot solve it. You get the readings written down so you can see the trend next time.

If the pool is already green, this is step one of green pool recovery. If the water is fine but the filter cannot hold it, that is a filter repair conversation.

One off pool water test or ongoing balancing

Plenty of people just want a proper baseline once, then manage it themselves, and that is a perfectly good outcome. If you would rather never think about it, water testing is built into every visit on a weekly service plan.

Questions we get

How often should I test?

Chlorine and pH weekly in summer. Stabiliser, calcium and salt every couple of months, and always after a big top up or a heavy rain week.

My test strips say everything is fine but the pool is green.

Strips age badly in a hot pump room and they do not read stabiliser or phosphates. That combination is exactly how a pool goes green with a perfect looking test.

Can you fix high stabiliser?

There is no chemical that removes it. It comes down to diluting with fresh water, which is why we test it before you spend another cent on chlorine.

Is my pool water safe to swim in?

We will tell you straight. Balanced water is not just about equipment, it is about not swimming in something that irritates skin and eyes.
