Winelands summers are the hottest in the greater Cape Town area, and Winelands pools show it. Kwik Pools services Stellenbosch, Die Boord, Paradyskloof, Paarl, Val de Vie, Pearl Valley, Franschhoek and Durbanville Hills.

Paarl and Stellenbosch push past 38 degrees in a January heatwave, and a pool responds to that in every direction at once. Evaporation runs high, chlorine burns off within hours without adequate stabiliser, and algae gets a foothold in days rather than weeks. Water temperatures in the low thirties are common by February, which is pleasant to swim in and excellent news for anything trying to grow in the water.
The practical answer here is unglamorous: correct stabiliser levels, filtration hours set for summer rather than left on a winter schedule, and a cover if you want to stop watching your water disappear. Heating is rarely the problem in the Winelands. Holding the water in the pool is.
Borehole and irrigation water is used to fill a lot of pools out here, and it brings its own chemistry. Iron staining that looks exactly like algae, manganese marks on plaster, and calcium hardness that varies enormously property to property. Dosing a borehole filled pool on the assumption that it behaves like municipal water is how people end up with stained marbelite and a chlorinator cell caked in scale. Start with proper water testing.
Winelands pools tend to be large, often on farms, estates or guest properties where the pool is a feature rather than an afterthought. Many are used hard in season and left alone the rest of the year. That pattern suits a scaled service plan: intensive through summer, light through winter, so the pool never becomes a green pool recovery job in September.

Winelands heat drives genuine evaporation. A cover roughly halves it, and we will bucket test if a leak is a realistic possibility.
Not bad, different. It brings iron, manganese and variable hardness, so it needs testing and dosing for what it actually contains.
Heat and UV with too little stabiliser. It is the most common problem we find on pools out here.
