Gordon’s Bay is coastal, hilly and windy, with pools ranging from small holiday flats to substantial homes up the slope. Kwik Pools services the area on the Helderberg route.
Wind coming off the bay and down the mountain strips heat off an open pool and drives evaporation, and salt air does its usual work on anything metal near the water. Both are worse here than a few kilometres inland at Somerset West.
The slope means terraced properties and awkward access on a fair number of jobs, which affects how anything involving draining or plant replacement gets planned.
A significant share of the property here is holiday accommodation, which means pools standing empty for long stretches and then being used hard. Pools that stand through a wet winter without attention come back as recovery jobs, and a light off season schedule prevents that for a fraction of the cost.
