The elevation gives you wind. It strips heat off an open pool and carries sand and plant debris in, so filtration hours and filter condition matter more than the pool size suggests.
The slope means a fair number of pools sit on terraced or built up ground, and when one of those starts losing water it tends to show up as damp or movement below rather than anything obvious at the pool itself.
Because this side of the peninsula has a long wet winter and a windy summer, the pools that stay easy here are the ones with a cover. It holds heat, keeps the debris out and cuts the filter workload, and on a family pool that is used every day in season it pays for itself quickly.
