  • Salt Water Pool Conversion Cape Town

If you are tired of hauling chlorine home every second weekend, converting to salt is a one day job that changes how you live with your pool. Kwik Pools does salt water pool conversions in Cape Town on existing chlorine pools of any age. Call or WhatsApp 084 483 1774.

What changes with a salt water pool conversion

  • You stop buying and storing granular chlorine
  • The water feels softer and stops smelling like a public pool
  • Chlorine is produced steadily instead of spiking after every dose
  • Red eyes and bleached costumes largely go away, because those come from swinging levels and chloramines
  • Your weekly job becomes checking the numbers rather than dosing

What does not change: it is still a chlorine pool. The unit simply makes the chlorine on site from salt instead of you pouring it in. Anyone promising a chemical free pool is selling you something.

Can your pool be converted?

Nearly all can, and the pool does not need to be drained. The two things we check first are the surface and the metal. A tired marbelite surface will show every flaw once a salt system is running, so if the plaster is close to done you are better off doing resurfacing first and converting into the fresh surface. Older pools with steel or untreated metal fittings, ladders or handrails need those checked, because salt water is unkind to the wrong alloys.

How a salt water pool conversion in Cape Town works

We fit the control unit somewhere dry and shaded, plumb the cell into the return line after the filter and any heater, wire it safely at the pool DB with surge protection, then add the salt and circulate until it is fully dissolved. Once the level is right we set the output and run times, test the water, and walk you through the controller so you know what normal looks like. Sizing is done on your actual pool volume, which is covered in more detail on our salt chlorinator installation page.

What it costs to live with

After the install, the salt itself is cheap and you top it up occasionally rather than weekly. The cell is the consumable and lasts five to seven years when it is sized right and kept free of scale. Most people find the running cost lands below what they were spending on chlorine, with the real win being that they stopped thinking about it.

Questions we get

Will the pool taste salty?

Barely. It runs at roughly a tenth of sea water, closer to the salt level of a tear.

Do I still need to test the water?

Yes. Salt pools drift alkaline and still need pH, stabiliser and calcium in range, which is what water testing and balancing covers.

Will it damage my paving?

Splash out can mark unsealed sandstone and cement over time. Sealing the coping deals with it.

Can I convert back?

Yes, easily. Switch the unit off and dose manually, and the salt dilutes out over time with normal top ups.
