Small garden, big want. A plunge pool fits where a full pool never will, costs a fraction to run and still turns a courtyard into somewhere you actually sit. Kwik Pools builds and installs plunge pools in Cape Town. Call or WhatsApp 084 483 1774.

Why a plunge pool suits Cape Town homes

Between the townhouse developments in Century City and Parklands and the tight erven in the City Bowl and Sea Point, a lot of Cape Town gardens simply cannot take a twelve metre pool. A plunge pool of three by two, or four by two and a half, drops into a courtyard, a side garden or a deck corner and still gives you somewhere to cool off after a 35 degree February day.

  • Small water volume, so heating it is cheap and fast
  • Far less chlorine and far less cleaning than a full pool
  • Fits on tight sites where access for a big build is impossible
  • Works beautifully with a bench or seat and a hydro jet if you want a spa feel
  • Adds usable outdoor living space rather than eating the whole garden

Concrete or precast plunge pools

A precast or fibreglass shell is quick, tidy and predictable, dropped in and connected in a matter of days where access allows. Concrete costs more and takes longer but you can build any shape and size, add a bench, a raised edge or a spillway, and it handles a sloping site better. On a lot of Cape Town properties access is the deciding factor, because getting a crane or a shell down the side of a semi detached house is either possible or it is not. We look at the site before recommending either.

What a plunge pool installation includes

Excavation, the shell, plumbing, a correctly sized pump and filter, the electrical connection, coping and the surrounds. On a small volume it is worth doing heating from the start, because a plunge pool is cheap to heat and that is what turns it into a year round feature rather than a summer one. We size that alongside our pool heating options, and a cover keeps the heat in overnight. For a full size build, see new pool construction.

Questions we get

How long does an installation take?

A precast install is often under two weeks including surrounds. Concrete typically runs three to five weeks depending on finishes and weather.

Do I need council approval?

Requirements vary by municipality and property, and safety regulations apply to any pool regardless of size. We flag what is needed for your site.

Is it cheap to maintain?

Yes, that is one of the main attractions. Small volume means less chemical and less work, and most plunge pools sit comfortably on a fortnightly service plan.

Can I add jets or heating later?

You can, but running the plumbing and electrics at build time costs a fraction of retrofitting. Decide early even if you fit the equipment later.
