A dead pool light turns a great entertainment area into a dark hole after 7pm. Kwik Pools handles pool light installation and repair in Cape Town, from swapping a blown globe to converting an old halogen niche to colour changing LED. Call or WhatsApp 084 483 1774.

Pool light installation and repair in Cape Town

  • Replace blown globes and failed LED units
  • Convert old halogen fittings to modern LED, usually without draining
  • Fit colour changing RGB lights with a remote or wall switch
  • Add a second light to a long pool that has always been half lit
  • Repair flooded niches, perished gaskets and corroded fittings
  • Trace and repair the cable run back to the transformer
  • Replace failed transformers and sort out the wiring at the pool DB

Why pool lights fail

Water in the niche is the usual answer. The gasket perishes, the fitting takes on water and the globe goes. On older Cape Town pools we also see corroded brass fittings and cable that has been nibbled at the conduit entry. Then there is the electrical side: a transformer that has taken one surge too many during load shedding, or a circuit that was never properly earthed in the first place.

That last one matters. Pool lighting sits in water and it needs to be on a low voltage supply, correctly bonded and protected. We do not take shortcuts on it, and if we find something dangerous behind the panel we will show you before we touch it.

LED pool lights are worth doing

A 300 watt halogen globe running four hours a night is real money over a summer. An LED equivalent draws a fraction of that, runs cooler so the gasket lasts longer, and lasts years rather than a season. Colour changing units also completely change how the pool looks at night, which sounds like a gimmick until you have one. Most halogen niches take a retrofit LED without any building work.

Done with the water in or out

Most globe and LED swaps are done with the pool full. The fitting is designed to be pulled out of the niche on its cable and worked on at the coping. A flooded niche, a new cable run or a brand new light position is different and may mean dropping the level or draining. If the shell is coming out anyway for resurfacing or a renovation, that is the moment to add lighting properly and cheaply.

Questions we get asked

Can you fit an LED without draining the pool?

In most cases yes. We work at the coping with the fitting out of the niche and the power isolated.

How long do pool LEDs last?

Good units run for years. The failures we see are almost always water in the niche or surge damage, not the diodes wearing out.

My light trips the earth leakage.

Stop using it and call us. That is water where it should not be, and it needs looking at rather than resetting.

Can I control the colours from my phone?

Yes, with the right unit and a controller. We will spec it alongside any other pool equipment work so it all runs off one tidy setup.
